About River Walk

River Walk was founded in 1987 and development of the approximately 430 home community has continued with the newest homes built as recently as 2007.  In addition to the leisure path, other amenities include a clubhouse with a fitness room, four hard-surface tennis courts, a playground and an Olympic-size pool. Besides being a source of recreation for all River Walk residents, the pool is home to the River Walk swim team, the Shockwaves. Residents support The Shockwaves’ annual fundraiser, the luminary sale, which results in one of the most beautiful holiday season light displays in the area.

There are many communities in South Carolina’s Upstate with attractive amenities, but there is only one community that offers its  residents a leisure path with the character of the one that winds its way throughout River Walk. Four miles long and paved, the River Walk leisure path is a haven for resident walkers, runners and bicycle riders who wish to exercise in natural surroundings away from motorized vehicles.  The scenic path meanders behind and between homes, through woods and over a boardwalk. Much of the trail runs alongside a river, actually Gilder Creek, which gives River Walk its name.

River Walk elementary students attend Monarch Elementary, a new school built in 2012, located a mere half mile away at 224 Five Forks Road. Middle school children attend Mauldin Middle School, and high school students are served by Mauldin High School.

The community consists mostly of two story brick traditional homes with side or rear facing garages. New construction and home improvements are guided by protective covenants to preserve home values.

River Walk is located in unincorporated Greenville County near both Mauldin and Simpsonville. In 2010, Simpsonville was selected by Family Circle Magazine as one of The Top Ten Best Towns for Families. T
